iLove Guys--Chapter 3

“Crap, I’m so sorry, let me get that for you” Mason Drekic gasped as he set down his tray and bent over to clean up the broken glass on the floor. It was only his first month working his new server job at Miso Freaky, the fancy modern sushi restaurant in downtown Denver. Mason was on the verge of tears from embarrassment when he heard a booming voice from behind him, “Raw. Next question.” to his demise, he turned to see no one else but Brady Mcgrath, his now ex-boyfriend. At a party earlier that month, Mason caught him making out with some random dude from an opposing school’s basketball team in a closet. Why was Brady choosing to talk with him now? And here of all places? As much as Mason wanted to punch him square in the nose, he plastered on his best customer-friendly expression and said to him (with a hint of sarcasm), “Sorry sir, please stand back as there’s broken glass on the ground. Can you find someone to seat you please?”. Brady simply smiled and said, “Sorry, I just got impatient and wanted to order. Oh, and I wasn’t talking about sushi.” Brady smirked. Before Mason could respond, he turned and strutted back to the line of people waiting to be seated. “This is going to be a long night.” Mason sighed as he ran off to grab a broom.

As his luck had been going lately, it was stupidly predictable that Mason would be Brady’s server. But Mason believed in a higher power for a brief moment when that turned out not to be the case. As he was serving other tables, however, he shot side glances in Brady’s direction. Brady was sitting across some gorgeous blonde girl he’d seen around the school. He didn’t know much about her, apart from her being pretty nice. Oh, and I’m pretty sure she plays softball, he thought. Good for him. Mason’s chest sank at the realization that deep in his heart, he wanted to be Brady’s server, just to hear his voice. His deep, commanding voice. If that voice told him to murder someone for him, he would do it in a heartbeat. After about an hour, the girl put on her jacket and they stood up to leave. As they were leaving, Brady put his arm around her and shot a backwards glance at Mason, as if to say “I know you’re fiening for me. You miss me so much, you little…” but it lasted about half a second before the couple walked out into the night, enveloped in stars, neon lights, and the electricity between them. Brady’s electricity, however, was like lightning; intense, short-lasting, and if it hit you–you’d be scarred for life.
