High School

October 2024

I saw you in the hallway,

All calm, so cool, so bright,

And suddenly my brain switched off—

Guess I forgot how to act right.

I cracked a joke, not my best,

About, like, quantum space?

But you just smiled and laughed out loud—

I swear, it lit the place.

I fumbled words, tripped on my feet,

But tried to play it smooth.

My heart was racing, palms were sweat,

Yet still, I aimed to prove.

That maybe, just maybe,

Behind the goofy grin,

There’s someone you might kinda like—

Though I can’t seem to win.

But then, you looked at me again,

With eyes so warm and bright,

And suddenly, the nerves were gone—

Everything felt right.

So I’ll keep being awkward,

And throwing jokes your way,

If it means I’ll see you smile again

Each and every day.
