High School Student

February 2024

Prompt: Write a love story in the form of a poem.

I will admit that you had me in a chokehold

We started off a little too bold

I was blinded by nostalgic memories

thought that you could have held the keys

to what I was missing in life

I imagined myself as your wife

it sounds stupid now but I swear

even though I was the one to break us apart

I couldn't bear

the thought of moving on was dark

I was stuck in place

standing.

still.

surely there was no other thrill

than hearing your voice

seeing your smile

it all felt so worthwhile

but alas, hearts march on

and I have found a better bond

we had our mistakes, our regrets and we feel feeble

but we have to acknowledge we are still learning how to be better people
