One major product that was exchanged that affected societies along the Silk Road was the luxury good tea. Tea was highly valued in places such as the Tang Dynasty, tea was seen as a symbol of wealth in their societies and was used by high classes. Which paved way for the wealthy to use it as a form of medicine, in rituals, or cultural practices throughout Central Asia.
One way the Silk Road facilitated cultural exchange between different regions was through the spread of religion such as Buddhism. Buddhism had originated in India and was a form of syncretism from Hinduism that spread all throughout the Silk Road. Buddhism was then able to become one of the most popular religions throughout Asia; this allowed for new interactions between cultures and religions from the constant spread of religions such as Buddhism.
One impact the Silk Road had on the development of cities along trade routes was the idea and building of caravanserai. Caravanserai had been built to provide a sanctuary for travelers along the Silk Road who needed a place to rest and feed their camales. These became highly populated because of this, allowing cities such as Kashgar and Samarkand to flourish with wealth and become an important part of the trade routes along the Silk Road.
