Gabe's eyes flew open. After his horrifying events of the previous day, Gabe was ready for a normal life. It was a regular Saturday for him, going to the party and visiting his harlots. During his bikini party he drank a countless number of pina coladas. He was deeply saddened by the passing of his friend Naekshaetrae and decided the only way for him to reconcile with his friend’s passing was to be with his friends. Although he wanted to spend more time at the pool, he decided to make a cup of aromatic beverage which utilized dihydrogen monoxide and leaves from trees (also known as tea) for his aching throat - he had not been crying for Naekshaetraes death, but he was feeling a little sick. He snatched his grandma's old recipe and was ready to begin. To start, he grabbed 10.00 oz of ice from the pool party cooler which was at -20 degrees Celsius and also saw an odd figure in it. He chose to ignore it. He also knew from his previous adventures that one ounce was 28.35g. He then grabbed his pot, Quandale Dingle, that weighed 500.0g. He then walked over to the stove and saw some weird dust. He chose to ignore this as well. He turned on the stove and heated the pot up to 0 degrees Celsius from -20 degrees Celsius, at which point the energy from the stove went into breaking the intermolecular forces between the water molecules in the ice block, thus facilitating a, drum roll please, ………… PHASE CHANGE!!!!! This newly rejuvenated and reborn (one could say enlightened) water then went through an amazing, extraordinary, even a scrumdiliumptious journey, where it gained thermal energy until it reached 91.334 degrees Celsius. After this, he added some nice smelling leaves to his tea, which were imported specially from Japan. After he was done, he took a big sip and sighed in relief that tomorrow was Sunday. Wohoooo!!! Gabe decided to calculate the total energy of this endeavor, especially after yesterday since he saw science in the world all-around him.
How to solve this problem:
Energy for (ice + pot heated) + Energy for (ice melted) + Energy for (water + pot heated)
Q1+2+Qf+Q3+4
For ice -> Delta T = 20 degrees celsius
For the pot -> Delta T = 20 + 91.334 = 111.334 degrees celsius
For water -> Delta T = 91.334 degrees celsius
Mass of ice -> 10.00oz x 28.35g/1oz = 283.5g
Qtotal = (Sice x Mice x Delta Tice) + (Spot x Mpot x ΔT) + (LF, ice x Mice) + (Swater x Mwater x ΔT)
Q1= 2.06 J/g*C * 283.5g * 20C
Q2= 0.385 J/g*C * 500g * 20C
Qf= 283.5 g * 334 J/g
Q3= 4.18 J/g*C * 283.5g * 91.334 C
Q4= 0.385 J/g*C * 500g * 91.334 C
Q1= 11,680.2 J
Q2= 3850 J
Q3= 94,689 J
Q4= 108,233.53 J
Q5= 17,581.795 J
Qtotal= 236,034.525 J
After drinking his delicious and informational cup of tea (which was an unusual drink choice for the nice weather), Gabe spied a peculiar individual at the pool party. He was a man of broad stature and he appeared to have a Russian bear tattooed on his arm. Gabe decided to walk quickly to the front of the house to try and deduce why the Russian Mafia was after him. After his experiences with the Yakuza, Gabe was not taking any chances. One of his friends followed him, trying to encourage Gabe to come to the party. Glancing around, nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary. However, out of the corner of his eye, a long black car - a limousine - came barreling down the alley. The 1987 Nissan limo possessed the brand of the Russian mafia - the sickle and the hammer held by an enormous brown bear. Thinking quickly, Gabe grabbed an enormous rock and chucked it into the path of the vehicle. The rock caused the car to slow down so quickly that the rubber of the tires actually melted - changing from a solid to a liquid, maintaining a heat of 180 C. The liquid rubber continued to heat up on the dark pavement, to 220. C. Gabe, always the superior science student, decided to do some quick calculations in his head to discover how much energy was gained by the tires. The tires each weighed approximately 27.207 lbs, the specific heat for solid rubber is 1300. J/g* C and the for liquid rubber is 2.005 J/g* C. He also knew that rubber had a latent heat of fusion of 16.7g and that the pavement had a starting temperature of 95 C. Writing with his handy piece of chalk, named Ernesto Vituilli II, Gabe jotted down his calculations:
(Rubber tires heated) + (rubber melting) + (rubber liquid heated)
OR
(Q1) + (Qf) + (Q2)
Q1= (27.207 lbs * 453.592 g1 lb) * 1300 J/g*C * (180 C-95 C)
Qf= 16.7 J/g * (27.207 lbs * 453.592 g1 lb)
Q2= (27.207 lbs * 453.592 g1 lb) * 2.005 J/g*C * (220 C-180 C)
Q1= 1,363,666,969 Joules
Qf= 206,092.655 Joules
Q2= 989,738.379 Joules
(Q1) + (Qf) + (Q2)= 1,364,862,800.034 Joules
Qtotal= 1,364,862,800.034 Joules
No sooner had Gabe completed these calculations before he heard a thump with a screech, and something that looked like Naekshaetrae (but definitely could not be him as the creature was silent) erupted out of the back of the stopped limo. It charged at Gabe, swinging its Antonov A40 Flying Tank wildly, with malicious intent at Gabe. All of the sudden, Gabe realized why Naekshaetrae’s remains were never found. The Russians repurposed Naekshaetrae into something useful (for once) - an indestructible, uniform, unstoppable, killing machine. Gabe cried out, begging Naekshaetrae to stop and come to his senses, but it was too late. The Russians had his mind as well as his body, Naekshaetrae was no longer himself. Gabe also wondered how they developed this new technology so quickly, but there was no time to think. As Gabe dueled Naekshaetrae’s Flying Tank, he realized the only way Naekshaetrae could be this strong was through enhancement. Naekshaetrae’s body had to be constructed out of some type of metal, meaning the only way to stop him would be to melt Naekshaetrae with his handy dandy flamethrower, King Leopold II. Naekshaetrae melted a tragic death and Gabe decided to find out how much energy was transferred to Naekshaetrae’s bubbling corpse. He knew that Naekshaetrae was now made out of graphene (which was an extremely flexible and strong metal) and the melting point of it was 3674.5 C and its specific heat is 0.643 J/g*C. Additionally, Naekshaetrae weighed 1000 g, making Gabe’s job even harder. Fortunately his genius brain allowed him to instantly calculate the exact amount of energy required to melt Robo-Naekshaetrae into a slag heap. His cranial process looked a little something like this:
Graphene Melting Point: 3674.5 C
Graphene Solid Specific Heat: 0.643 J/g*C
Naekshaetrae the Cyborg’s Weight (g) 1000.
Og Temp of Naekshaetrae in degrees Celsius- 98.6
Temperature of Naekshaetrae has to be at least 4237
Graphene Liquid Specific Heat: 2.10 J/g*C
Latent fusion graphene: **21000J/g
Boiling point graphene: 4200 C
(Energy(J) to heat Naekshaetrae)+(Energy(J) to melt Naekshaetrae)+(Energy(J) to heat liquid graphene)
Q1=1000g*0.643J/g*C*(3674.5*C-98.6*C)
Q2=1000g*21000J/g
Q3=1000g*2.10J/g*C*(4237*C-3674.5*C)
Q1=2299303.7J
Q2=21000000J
Q3=1181250J
Q1+Q2+Q3=24,480,553.7J
Qtotal=24,480,553.7J
Gabe needed to generate 24,480,553.7 Joules in order to melt Naekshaetrae to death. He wept as he did it, but did it nonetheless. Throwing aside the flamethrower once he had finished, he shed one more tear for the memory of his friend, summoned his horse, Cecil Rhodes, and rode off with Thailer, Matt, and Lev the Chaos Demon into the sunset, with the knowledge of more adventures to come. As they began trotting off in the distance, Naekshaetrae’s cyborg eye magically opened and he let out a blood curdling scream. He told himself that he would get his revenge!
**Graphene Latent Fusion: This value may not be completely accurate as heating graphene up to this point requires an immense amount of energy, so the true value is not known.
