The Hydraulic Press of Time

Daphne Baumgartner

High School Freshman

March 2023

Prompt: How do you personally change with the seasons or how do you see others around you change (summer, fall, winter, and spring)?

Trees will bend and rocks erode

Under the intense pressure of

Minutes,

Hours,

Days,

Weeks,

Months,

Centuries.

Time tends to press its hands down

And crush every

Romance,

Loss,

Fleeting feeling of knowing you’ve been there before

But you haven’t

Every living thing drowns in the river that is time

Rushing, flowing, not caring what it brings with it

Or leaves behind.

I raise my head out of the water,

And on the shore I see him

All of my romance, life, loss

Lays there on the rocky, sandy bank

The river slows down gradually

Until not a molecule moves.

His beauty reverbarates throughout the Ecosystem of the universe

My hair may grow,

I may become wiser

So much wiser not to want to listen to anyone

But then he echos,

Through my ears,

Through my bones,

Through my soul,

And in a heartbeat,

Just as fast as he changed my entire life outcome

He disappears like a grain of sand

Under rolling ocean waves
