High School Students

Prompt: Is it worth having a relationship in high school and why?
It seems like everyone goes to school now for everything else except learning. Everyone expects you to have a boyfriend or a girlfriend and a date at all the dances. It's kind of pathetic actually. If you think about it, being in a High School relationship has more cons than pros. Although some may find entertainment in being in a relationship in high school, ultimately investing the amount of time and money necessary, being committed to a healthy relationship, and maintaining a balance between school, family, friends, and a future is too overwhelming and will negatively impact everything in life.
Being in a relationship in high school is okay, but what’s the point if you're going to college anyway? If you happen to be in a relationship with someone and you want to go to a different college that is miles apart, that's personally crazy. Even if you manage to survive long distances, what are the chances your partner doesn’t cheat on you? College is a time of growth and finding yourself, and that's very difficult to achieve if you’ve tied your worth to a singular person who may let you down or break your heart.
Now I might sound like a psychopath when I say this, but being in a relationship is kind of gross. Think about it, you ACTUALLY have to like someone and commit. To be successful and in a healthy relationship you need to be emotionally vulnerable with each other 🤮. We’re high school students. None of us (especially the guys) are truly emotionally mature enough to be able to handle and sustain a healthy relationship. You have to be genuine with another person and express your love. I can’t even solve a physics problem right, how am I supposed to pick the right person? Seems wack to me.
The time and money that some people demand in relationships are ridiculous. A lot of high school students don’t have jobs, and if they do they’re expected to spend all of their money on their partner. Inflation is real, and high school students need to pay for gas, save for college, and learn how to be financially stable, none of which is benefited by being expected to use all of your money on someone else. Additionally, as high school students, we’re busy. We have lives. We play sports, do theater, have jobs, go to school, and do homework. Having to go on a date or hang out every day, if people are emotionally healthy, is too overwhelming for someone’s social battery.
Being in a relationship is completely overrated. Most of us don't even have jobs that pay us that much and we have to go on dates and pay for the other person?!?!? CRAZY, and if you don’t pay you seem like the bad person, I’m sorry I want to be selfish and keep all my money. AND DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE AMOUNT OF TIME YOU NEED TO SPEND ON SOMEONE. I’m busy trying not to go broke while going off campus and you need me to pay for you? Anyway, I'm bored writing this so I'm gonna call it a day. High school relationships are mid.
